Yes, you can import Control-M for z/OS scheduling tables and calendar definitions directly from the host into the VISUALjob for Control-M definition database. Log files created by Control-M for z/OS with version 6.x can be analyzed and imported into the statistical database with VISUALstatman for Control-M (workload analysis, workload simulation, etc.).

Does VISUALjob for Control-M support Control-M for Distributed Systems?
Yes, scheduling definitions and calendar definitions can be exported from Control-M Enterprise Manager in XML format using the Control-M commands “exportdefjob” and “exportdefcal”. These XML files can then be imported into the VISUALjob for Control-M definition database. Logfiles created by the Control-M Server can be analyzed and imported into the statistical database with VISUALstatman for Control-M. Enterprise Manager and Control-M Server releases 6.1.03 are minimum requirements.

Is there a limit on jobs that can be managed by VISUALjob for Control-M?
Depending on the complexity of the job definitions, the physical limitation on job definitions in the VISUALjob for Control-M definition database is anywhere between 500,000 and 2 million defined jobs.

Is there a limitation on the size of the statistical database?
Yes there is a physical limit on the statistical database created and updated with VISUALstatman for Control-M (SE) of 2 GB. Depending on the size of the production environment this would be enough statistical data about 6 month to two years, or even more in a single database. There is no limitation on the number of statistical databases.

How does the print of large flowcharts or Gantt-charts work?
VISUALjob for Control-M does have a sophisticated print facility. Every Windows 2000/XP/Vista compatible printer or plotter is supported. The page setup and printer setup options allow you to adjust the print output to your needs. In case you have a PDF writer installed on your PC, you can even create high quality output in PDF format.

Is it possible to export the flowcharts and Gantt-charts into a graphical format?
The flowcharts (WebView) and Gantt-charts of VISUALjob for Control-M can be exported to graphical formats like bitmap, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, Encapsulated Postscript, MS Paint and PNG. Even vector-graph type formats like Windows Meta File (WMF) are supported.

What kind of forecast functionality does VISUALjob for Control-M provide?
Based on the fact that VISUALjob for Control-M has full knowledge about the scheduling definitions and the calendar definition, it can calculate for every job when it is planned for execution. VISUALjob for Control-M can also display entire jobflows in the WebView flowcharts marking those jobs that are planned for execution for a particular day and actually graphically crossing out those jobs that are not planned to run for the forecasted day. The real value of such a combined flowchart/forecast view is that inconsistencies for the forecasted day can easily be identified. Problems can be eliminated before they impact the business negatively.

Is it possible to graphically view past performance of the Control-M batch flow?
Yes. This is covered by the Gantt-chart (called GanttView) within VISUALjob for Control-M utilizing the statistical database created by VISUALstatman for Control-M.

Certain jobs in a business critical batch flow will run longer on future days. Can I predict if this will impact my service levels and what jobs will actually build the critical path?
With VISUALjob for Control-M it is possible to simulate future batch flows. This includes what if scenarios taking different job durations into account. The VISUALjob for Control-M workload simulation also calculates the critical path. The results of the VISUALjob for Control-M workload simulation will be presented in a high quality Gantt chart and in report format.

What is the difference between the single user and the network installations?
The VISUALjob for Control-M single user install means that all components of VISUALjob for Control-M are installed on a specific single Windows 2000/XP/Vista PC. The VISUALjob for Control-M network installation installs VISUALjob for Control-M on a Windows 2000/2003 server. The installation of the VISUALjob for Control-M clients accessing the VISUALjob for Control-M server is done via the so called “OneClickClient Installation”. Updates for new releases are done on the central server – clients normally do not need to be updated in case of new releases.

How is a VISUALjob for Control-M concurrent user defined?
In a VISUALjob for Control-M network installation, you can license a number of concurrent users. The number of licensed concurrent users means the number of users that can work with VISUALjob for Control-M at the same time. Example: In case you have licensed 10 concurrent users, you can install VISUALjob for Control-M on as many PC—clients as you want, but only 10 users at the time can work with VISUALjob for Control-M.

How long does it take to install VISUALjob for Control-M?
It actually only takes about three minutes to install VISUALjob for Control-M in single user mode on a Windows 2000/XP/Vista PC. The network install takes about fifteen minutes for the server and about one minute for each client.

VISUALstatman for Control-M (Standard Edition) allows to create and populate the VISUALstatman for Control-M statistical database while importing Control-M log files. This statistical database is the basis for the Workload Analysis and the Workload Simulation of VISUALjob for Control-M.
